The people you'll
actually be with
Neither of the two reference sites in this market names a single human being. Here is everyone.
Five people work this valley between them, some for over a decade. Every guest is paired with one guide for the whole of the trip — the same person at four in the morning and at dinner. That is not an upgrade here. It is simply how it is done.
Jānis Ozols
Head guide · 11 seasons
Jānis knows the north block better than the map does. He came to guiding from forestry and has never quite left the forestry behind.
German · Latvian · English · Dog: Rūda, a wire-haired dachshund with strong opinions
Kārlis Bērziņš
Guide · 7 seasons
Kārlis is the high-seat man, endlessly patient, and will happily argue that the stag you wait three mornings for is worth more than the one that walks out on the first. He is usually right, and always says so.
Latvian · English · Russian · Favourite stand: the oak at the stream bend
Andris Kalniņš
Guide · 5 seasons
Andris runs the dogs and the recovery work, and is the person you most want beside you when a track goes cold at dusk. Patient to a fault, which is the right fault to have.
Latvian · English · Some Spanish · Dogs: Teo and Vilks
Elza Liepa
The kitchen
Elza cooks what the season provides — venison from the estate, Kurzeme produce, bread she will not discuss the recipe of. Dinner is at eight because she says it is.
Latvian · English · Ask about the juniper
Ilze Krūmiņa
The house
Ilze keeps the manor running — the fire lit, the drying room warm, the boots by the door where you left them. Most guests never see the work, which is the point of it.
Latvian · German · Twelve seasons at the house
Roberts Vītols
Owner & founder
Roberts grew up on the edge of this valley and bought back into it as an adult, one parcel at a time. He still guides a few weeks each September, mostly to argue with Jānis about the north block.
Latvian · German · English · Russian

Why it exists
One valley, kept small on purpose
Staghorn is not run to a growth plan. Nine guests a season is not a soft opening for ninety — it is the number the valley carries without being emptied of what people come for. The people above are most of the payroll, and all of the reason it works.
